You can now self-refer as soon as you know that you are pregnant using our online self-referral form (please read the disclaimer prior to sending your referral). Telling us promptly, will ensure you receive maternity care that takes into account all your health needs and preferences. If you do not wish to submit this form online, you can download our PDF form.
From 8 weeks of pregnancy or within 2 weeks of your referral you can expect to receive two appointments.
- Your ‘booking assessment’ appointment with a midwife
- An ultrasound scan appointment
Prior to attending your ‘booking appointment’ there is important information to read. This information can be accessed by clicking here. If you would like a hard copy of the leaflets or a link to view these in alternative languages please contact the Admin Office on 0208 934 2290.
The first appointment with a midwife will take place either at the hospital or in a local clinic eg. children’s centre, a health centre or at your GP surgery. If you live further away, your appointment will be at Kingston Hospital. Please click here for a map of the Hospital.
You will be given information on nutrition and diet, antenatal screening tests, antenatal care and classes, breastfeeding workshops, maternity and paternity benefits, planning your labour and where to have your baby.
You will also be offered several antenatal screening tests which are involve a blood sample being obtained. In some cases, the baby’s father may be asked to have a blood test to check for inherited conditions.
To ensure you are given the support you need and so that any risks are spotted early, your midwife will also ask you some questions. You too may have lots of questions to ask us! It often helps to write down what you want to say in advance, as it’s easy to forget once you are there.
It’s important for us to find out what you want to know and to talk about your own feelings and preferences. You can discuss your options of place at birth at any time throughout the antenatal period. For more information about your options click here.
We look forward to seeing you soon,
The maternity team
