Parenting and wellbeing classes
At Kingston, we offer several options regarding antenatal classes, including infant feeding, yoga and “Dads to be”. Antenatal classes may also be available at your local children's centre or GP surgery. We would recommend booking these some time in advance.
At the current time, all of our workshops and classes at Kingston Maternity are running virtually. If you would like to access any of our classes, please speak to your midwife for further information.
Why go to classes?
Currently all Face-to-face Antenatal Classes have been suspended due to the pandemic. We apologise for this inconvenience and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
As soon as we can reinstate these classes, we will update you.
Please speak to your midwife if you require further information relating to your care or birth choices
Antenatal classes (sometimes called parentcraft classes) can help you to prepare for your baby’s birth and learn to look after and feed your baby. They can help you to keep fit and well during pregnancy, and give you confidence and information. You can learn about the different arrangements for labour and birth, and the choices available to you. This can help you to make your own birth plan. Knowing the differences in health benefits of breastfeeding can help you make an informed choice in how you decide to feed your baby. At classes you can gain information and practical skills that will help you be successful in your chosen method of feeding. You'll be able to discuss your plans and any worries with professionals and with other parents.
Classes are also a good way to make friends with other parents who are expecting babies around the same time as you. These friendships often help parents through the first few months with a baby. Classes are usually informal and fun. Speak to your midwife to find out more about what is on offer near you.
