Kay Philcox, Emergency Department Matron
What does your average day look like at KHFT?
The average day is very busy, dealing with staff challenges and trying to make sure we see our patients as quickly as possible. Christmas time is normally the busiest time of the year for ED, with a lot of patients coming in from cold-weather related issues.
What makes you proud in your job?
Working with my amazing team!
What is your highlight of 2018?
Becoming one of the leaders of the Mental Health Assessment Unit, which we now have set up in the Department to see mental health patients. And spending time on my days off with my two children!
What is your favourite thing about the festive season?
Eating Christmas cake and see how excited my children get when they see Santa has been!
Tell us something about yourself that your colleagues may not know
I almost started nurse training with the RAF.
