Screening tests for you and your baby


GOV.UK and NHS England provide information about the screening tests offered during and after pregnancy for both you and your baby. Both websites have similar information.

  • Infectious diseases
  • Sickle cell and Thalassaemia
  • Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome and Patau’s syndrome (the Combined Test and Reflex DNA Test)
  • 11 physical conditions (20 week scan)
  • Diabetic eye screening
  • Newborn eyes, heart, hips and testes (physical examination)
  • Newborn hearing loss
  • Newborn blood spot.
