Momentum Children’s Charity

Kingston Hospital Paediatric Department has worked in partnership with Momentum Children’s Charity, an independent charity which supports families whose children are facing cancer or a life-challenging diagnosis, since 2004. It’s an incredibly special partnership and has been created to make sure that every hospital trip and experience, is as positive as it can be for seriously ill children and their families.

From the moment one of our clinical team refer a family to Momentum, they will get a designated Family Support Worker who’ll work closely with them, and the medical team here, to offer ongoing support for the whole family. Whether it’s helping to keep a family connected through long hospital stays or putting therapy sessions in place once they’re discharged home, it’s a symbiotic partnership which means families cared for at Kingston Hospital get the best care and support possible, at the toughest of times.

In hospital, Momentum’s Family Support Worker will visit the children’s ward every week, so they are on hand to speak to families and catch up with the paediatric teams on treatment plans of those families under their care. The charity are also committed to helping to improve the healing environment, and have taken on a number of refurbishment projects here at Kingston paediatrics to transform what can be a frightening and unfamiliar environment, into a bright and child-friendly one.

Outside of the hospital, their tailored support continues for families, through ongoing 1-2-1 support as well as offering them access to a suite of services including counselling, creative therapies and family experiences as well as respite breaks at one of their three holiday homes or on their peaceful Moments on the River boat.

Momentum Children’s Charity, quite simply, are there to help families of seriously ill children to keep moving forward. They’re there whatever the outcome, whenever they’re needed and you can find out more about everything they do at www.moment-um.org
