Helen Matthews was appointed as a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Consultant to Kingston Hospital in April 2014.
She received her primary medical degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. She completed her training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology working at several trusts in North and South London including Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, St George’s and Imperial NHS Trust.
She has been awarded a number of academic prizes, including a Foundation Scholarship from Cambridge University and a Wellcome Trust Training Fellowship for her research work in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease at Imperial College London.
She is an accredited Bowelscope endoscopist.
She is the Research Director for Kingston Hospital.
Clinical interests and treatments:
General liver problems including abnormal liver function tests, fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, viral hepatitis; General gastroenterology including investigation of indigestion, abdominal pain and change of bowel habit; Diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy; GI cancer screening.
As Research Director for the trust, she is Principle Investigator in number of research studies in gastroenterology and hepatology.
